Denny and Lee hold nerves to reach World final

James Denny and Matty Lee held their nerves to reach the 10m Synchro final after their prelim came down to the wire at the Kazan 2015 World Championships in Russia.

The British pair, who are both making their World Championship debuts in Kazan, were in and out of the top 12 throughout the six rounds before finally sealing the 12th and last qualification spot with their last dive.

Having dropped their penultimate dive for just 56.10, the Brits had slipped from 10th to 13th but a steady 73.80 for their forward 3 ½ somersaults piked saw them recover to finish on 379.86 and bounce back into the top 12.

“I’m very happy with the results obviously because we’ve made it into the final,” said Lee.

“It wasn’t the best dives we’ve ever done. The second-to-last was a bit of a drop for us but we luckily ended on a good dive which helped us get through to the final.”

Denny added: “I think it was a good prelim for us. We did five really good dives and missed one which has been our bogey dive.

“We’ll go back and rest now and come back later for the final and hopefully get that dive better next time.”

The Brits will look for an improvement in the final, having scored 400.44 to finish fifth at the European Championships in Rostock earlier this season.
