Britain's divers secured a fantastic five-medal haul to round out their World Aquatics Diving World Cup campaign at the Super Final in China over the weekend.
With athletes having earned their place in the Super Final by virtue of results and performances at the previous two legs in Canada and Germany, there was plenty of evidence why so many finals spots had been qualified as the GB cohort put a brilliant three days of displays together to claim the second-highest number of medals across the competition.
That included a pair of silvers for Tom Daley, as he and Noah Williams laid down their latest world-class list of dives to place second in the Men's 10m Synchro - just as they did in February's World Championships - after Tom combined with Dan Goodfellow, Grace Reid and Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix in a silver-winning Mixed Team event result the previous day.
In the men's synchro contest, Daley and Williams were impressively consistent, every single optional dive scoring 80-plus points - including a 92.88-point haul for their fourth-round Back 3 1/2 Somersaults Pike (207B). They ultimately closed on 440.37, nearly 50 points clear of Germany in third.
There was similar consistency in the Mixed Team event, the best saved for last as Spendolini-Sirieix and Daley's Inward 3 1/2 Somersaults Tuck (407C) earned exclusively 8.5s and 9s from the judges to ensure the quartet closed on 456.75 points, behind only China in the standings.
Three-time Olympic medallist Jack Laugher claimed a pair of bronzes over the two days, opening up with a third place alongside partner Anthony Harding in the Men's 3m Synchro as they bounced back from a slight drop in round five to finish with a clutch Forward 4 1/2 Somersaults Tuck (109C) for 84.36 points and close on 403.89, before Laugher came back the following day to again reach the podium in the individual Men's 3m Springboard, Jack showing the sort of form which bodes well as he targets a fourth Olympic Games later this year.
The final British medal of the competition came courtesy of Spendolini-Sirieix, who mirrored her result from February's World Championships by claiming Women's 10m Platform bronze. Andrea moved into third from round three onwards, but it was her closing Back 2 1/2 Somersaults 1 1/2 Twists Pike (5253B) which, just like in Doha, made sure of the silverware, earning her 81.60 to finish with 344.60 points overall.
Away from the podium, the list of strong GB showings continued as the prospect of a world-class Speedo Aquatics GB Diving Championships next month looms larger. Dan Goodfellow was fifth in the Men's 3m Springboard, Grace Reid placed sixth in the women's event, while Kyle Kothari and Noah Williams were fourth and fifth respectively in another stacked Men's 10m Platform showpiece.
Reflecting on the Super Final performances and the displays of the GB divers throughout the World Cup campaign, straight off the back of a record-breaking World Championships, Aquatics GB Associate Performance Director Tim Jones said: "We have been highly consistent all the way through, with medals at each round of the competition - and on top of that, performing well in front of the judges in the months leading up to an Olympics year is important.
"Among the highlights, the continuing quality of our new men's synchro platform partnership was great to see, as was Andrea's final dive to secure bronze in the women's individual platform event - her ability to compete under pressure is exceptional. Seeing Jack and Anthony building nicely to where they need to be with another podium finish is really positive, as was Jack's individual performance as well off the back of that, so that was great. We now need to press pause and reset everything a little bit following a stacked couple of months of international competition, as we build towards the Speedo Aquatics GB Diving Championships at the end of May and then, ultimately, towards Paris in the summer."
