Sport leadership roles commit to Tokyo 2020

17 Nov 2016

British Swimming has welcomed the continued commitments of key technical roles within its leadership as the sports continue their development across another four-year cycle to Tokyo 2020.

Swimming National Performance Director Chris Spice and Head Coach Bill Furniss will lead the programme for another Olympic cycle and are joined once again by Head of Performance Team Development Nigel Redman.

The Para-Swimming programme will continue to be led by National Performance Director Chris Furber, Head Coach Rob Greenwood and Performance Pathway Manager Craig Nicholson.

National Performance Director Alexei Evangulov will continue to shape the direction of the diving programme and Head Coach Dive London Jane Figueiredo has also confirmed her commitment through to Tokyo.

The announcement comes off the back of a summer in which the aquatic disciplines reached new heights on the Olympic and Paralympic stages in Rio.

Swimming achieved its best result for over 100 years at the Rio 2016 OIympics with six medals while diving achieved a greatest ever result with three. Weeks later the Paralympic team followed up with arguably its most impressive performance in the history of the Games with a total of 47 medals.

Commenting on the renewed commitments British Swimming Chairman Maurice Watkins CBE said: “British Swimming is delighted to have secured these key leadership roles as we reflect on the fantastic results of 2016 while embarking on another four-year cycle to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

“At this summer’s Olympic Games we saw swimming achieve its greatest result for over 100 years, diving delivered a best ever performance and this was repeated by our inspiring swimmers at the Paralympic Games.

“Securing our proven leadership teams for another four-year cycle was a priority for British Swimming as it enables us to provide stability while each sport continues to pursue the performance improvements required to move the sports forward to a successful outcome in Tokyo.”
