Luke Hornsey and Luke McGee will fly the flag for Great Britain at the 2025 European Aquatics Junior Open Water Championships in Portugal.

The iconic open water swimming venue of Setubal is preparing to host Europe’s brightest junior open water swimmers from 19th–21st June 2025, as the European Junior Open Water Swimming Championships return for a thrilling three-day showdown featuring the 5 km, 7.5 km, 10 km, 3km knockout sprint, and mixed relay events.

For Britain’s team of two entered into this year’s championships, both Luke Hornsey and Luke McGee will compete solely in the 18-19 Boys’ 10km – the first event set off from the pontoon on Thursday 19th June at 10am.

Hornsey – who has previous international junior experience as part of the 2024 European Junior Swimming team – won silver and bronze medals respectively in the Men’s 800m Freestyle and 1500m Freestyle at the Aquatics GB Swimming Championship in April before making a debut open water competition swim at the European Aquatics Open Water Cup in Protaras, Cyprus.

Meanwhile McGee - a member of the Team GB squad at the 2022 European Youth Olympic Festival – is set for his first-ever international marathon swimming race.
